Pinecrest
Bordered by Woodroffe, Baseline, Greenbank and the Queensway sits the established older communities of Queensway Terrace South, Ridgeview, Parkway Park and Kenson Park. Some refer to this area as Pinecrest where visitors from everywhere frequent the familiar big box stores of the Pinecrest Mall such as Ikea and Chapters.
Pinecrest was developed in the early 1960s. I, David Lyon, moved there with my parents into one of its brand new homes and have continued associations since that time. Over the years I have seen the area grow into an established community offering numerous amenities and conveniences.
Homes in this area are solidly built and range in size. Living in this area is ideal for singles, families, retirees and students. There is a mix of bungalows, two storeys, split levels, semi-detached and condominiums. The homes are built by Campeau, Minto, Armstrong and some custom homes.
Proximity to shopping, transportation, churches, schools and fitness is fantastic. The 417 Queensway is accessible at Greenbank and Woodroffe and only a 5 to 10 minute drive to downtown. The transitway system is just off Iris between Parkway Park and Kenson Park. Major shopping areas include the Pinecrest Mall on Iris and College Square on Woodroffe. The Pinecrest Recreation Complex contains a pool, arena, a weight/cardio room and halls. For families with children we have included a list of area schools with their links. For the older kids and parents there is Algonquin College which offers full-time programs and an abundance of continuing education courses.
